[1] Is it true that eating after 7:30pm makes you gain weight? |
No. This is a myth! Weight gain occurs when the number of calories ingested is
higher than the number of calories burned per day. Therefore, if you are
eating more calories than you are burning then, you will gain weight no matter
what time you eat, although it is recommended to have your most caloric meal
during the day and something lighter (easier to digest) for dinner. |

[2] I have tried all diets in the market. I loose weight for a while but I always
get it back. Why? |
Diets do not work!!! The temporary weight loss is due to drastic reduction of
daily caloric intake. The best way to loose weight is to make little changes daily:
a) instead of eating out pack your meals;
b) snack on fruits, yogurt, nuts;
c) bake and/or broil - do not fry;
d) use fresh herbs for seasoning;
e) have small meals;
f) eat from all food groups in moderation;
g) cut out junk foods;
h) exercise daily for half an hour
Remember that you want to change your lifestyle. |

[3] Should I take protein supplements to build muscle mass? |
No. The average daily intake of protein consumption is already above the
recommended dietary guidelines. The excess protein consumption will be
excreted causing kidneys to work harder than they should. The best way to build
muscle mass is to eat a well balanced diet and to have the "right" workout
program designed to your body type |

[4] As a woman I am afraid to bulk up if I start lifting weights. What should I
do |
It is not common for women to bulk up. Lifting weights will not make you look
like a body builder. There is a huge difference between training for body
building (when usually the girls get big) and lifting weights to increase muscle
mass, decrease body fat and get toned. |

[5] What do you think about low-carb products? |
Sincerely? Not much. Most of the sugar-based products came out with a low-carb
version which means they cut out the "sucrose or glucose" amount in the product
and replaced it with artificial sweetener. Research have shown that artificial
sweetener could stimulate appetite in some people and besides that these
foods should not be consumed daily - usually they are the refined carbs that
should be avoided. One should consume carbs that are rich in fiber and
nutrients. |

[6] I would like to lose 15 pounds in two months, can I do that? |
The body should loose no more than 1/2 a pound to 1 pound of weight each
week. By loosing more than a pound per week, the body begins to feel as if it
is starving and fights back by slowing down and releases hormones which hold
on to and brings the weight back. |

[7] Which is more to do in terms of weight loss, weight training or cardio? |
You can not have one without the other. Both are essential in achieving proper
weight loss. Weight training allows you to build muscle mass which raises your
energy output. In conjunction with that low, moderate or intense cardio will help
the weight to fall off. |

[8] I have been doing all right things, why is that I can't lose the weight? |
It is normal to reach a plateau during training and some last long than others.
When this happens you have to go back to the drawing board by addressing
your diet, make a change in your workout program or simply making sure that
you are not over training by not giving your body enough of a rest between
workouts. |

[9] I am in my 60's, should I be doing an intense workout regime? |
First, check with your doctor by having a check-up before starting any kind of
training. Second, weight training is essential for maintaining bone density.
Third, exercise at any age is great for developing and maintaining a healthy
lifestyle, specially one that incorporates stability training for all around fitness |

[10] Should I be doing exercise
while I am pregnant? |
Unless there are underlying reasons for not exercising, a woman can exercise
all the way through her pregnancy without doing any harm to herself and the
baby specially if she was in an exercise regime before getting pregnant. Keep
in mind that the intensity and frequency of the workouts should be modified to
accommodate all the body changes. |
