Boosting your Metabolism

Definition of metabolism:
Metabolism is the number of calories that you burn at any given moment.
Your metabolism burns more calories while you are active then when you
are at rest.

Things you can do to raise your metabolism:
1 Strength Training:
Lifting weights help build muscle which burns more calories than fat and speeds up your metabolism.

2.

Cardio Workout:
Cardio workout speeds up your metabolism and burn calories. The goal is to exercise at your target heart rate to achieve the greatest benefits.

Your target heart rate is calculated as follows:
220 minus your age, multiplied by 0.6 = lower limit
220 minus your age, multiplied by 0.8 = upper limit

By staying within these limits you will be utilizing the most fat while sparing muscle.

3. Eat more often:
When you eat between 5 to 6 small meals a day, the calories will be used for energy throughout the day. When you miss meals or have long periods between meals, your metabolism rate slows down because it thinks you are starving yourself. By eating frequently, you will stabilize your blood sugar level and avoid dips in energy.
